The Maya2 Project

Maya2 is the continuation of the earlier Maya project. It is the logical follow-up of the investigations and reports that resulted out of the first phase of this European Interreg rounds of subsidies.

General information

The European ideas to come to stronger transnational cooperation in North-West Europe, especially in the area’s around the coastlines have resulted in subsidy programs that aim at developing transnational attractive sailing routes between highly attractive gateways on the landside. Maya’s first phase showed the mutual interest at all levels and in all the countries involved and Maya2 will further develop the idea and invest in facilities that can match the future demands of the sailors in various ways.Under the coordination of the province of Zeeland as a lead partner, 14 partners have gathered to continue the original work. The Final Report of the socio economic impact of Joint Management Team MAYA2 is available now.  

September 2006

Final Conference MAYA2 21st and 22nd September 2006 was a succes with 80 participants.

The speakers were:

10.00 hrs.  Opening and overview programme by Mr. T. Peters, project manager MAYA2

10.10 hrs.  Welcome speech by Mr. S. Knigge, Director WEB, Provincie Zeeland

10.20 hrs.  'The importance of the tourist field for Europe' by Mr. R.J. Hoeve of the European Commission, office the Hague (dowload here this presentation)

10.40 hrs.  Marketing and promotion, 'Welcoming visitors ashore' by Mr. J. Wilson, Managing Director of Wales Watersports International 

11.00 hrs.  'Marketing and promotion of marine leisure' by Mr. W. van Laarhoven, managing director of Promint project management

11.20 hrs.  'Socio economic impacts of marine leisure in Lowland Canals, Scotland' by Mr. R. Simpson of British Waterways

Marina Tourist Guide Irish Sea

The Marina Tourist Guide Irish Sea, with information of 50 Marinas in this area, will be printed in April 2006. The Guide will be presented during the MAYA2-Partnermeeting on 06th April 2006 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Marina Tourist Guide Southern Northsea

The Marina Tourist Guide Southern Northsea, with information of 75 Marinas in this area, will be printed in January 2006. The Guide will be presented during the 'Belgian Boat Show' in Gent, Belgium on 17th February 2006.
